hi there i hope someone out there will help me, we moved in to our brand new house in may, i noticed that it felt a little damp, i thought ok maybe still drying out a bit, new plaster and that... now, everywhere is really cosy accept my daughters room, the carpet feels dampish, her toys, everything, i even found mould under her bed, i am horrified, i air it every day, the heat is on periodically, it is clean and tidy, what the heck could be wrong, any ideas PLEASE!!Help please, new house problem.?
You may live in a high water table area. It sounds as though there is seepage coming up through a cement floor - if you have a 'slab' house.
Contact your contractor. It could simply be ground moisture and the floor was not properly sealed.
Hope this helps.Help please, new house problem.?
Sounds like you need a damp proof course, or the one you have isn't working. What did your survey say?
Get the builders to check it will be covered under the NHBC, if it is not a leak from piping then it will be condensation due to lack of ventillation have a look at this website

I had a Drimaster 2000 fitted and all my problems have gone, but please check for leaks etc first also it can take up to 1 year for a house to dry from new build
The house should be covered by the NHBC warranty. Contact your estate agent/ builder and they should investigate. My daughter bought a brand new house and had problems when it rained, back garden flooding, she contacted the builder from whom she bought it and they found a problem with the drains under the house and got it sorted.
first thing I would check would be to see if moisture is under the house......
is it a one story house set on wood or cement??
if wood look under rhe house and see if water is present.....
This sounds like more than condensation. Could be a leaking water pipe or under floor heating pipe. There should be no drains under the floor but there could be a leak outside the perimeter of the house and water could track back under. Your damp proof membrane should protect you from this but it could be faulty too.
Sounds like something to take to the NHBC sooner rather than later.
Is the door to that room being kept shut frequently? The reason I'm asking is that the same thing happened in my son's room. He had mold growing on his ceiling and his carpet, pretty much everything was constantly damp. At first I didn't put two and two together. Then it dawned on me that his door was always kept shut. I guess the lack of airflow through the house or something caused moisture to build up in that room. Try a dehumidifier in that room. Good luck!
