What do you think about 3 million new houses being built by 2020 in the uk?

I think there's already to many houses in the uk but with 3 million more new houses by 2020 i can't imagine how dull the uk is going to look,i don't have to be old fashioned to say that new houses these days don't have any character and old buildings have alot of chartacter,if you have a different opinion on this feel free to answerWhat do you think about 3 million new houses being built by 2020 in the uk?
It's totally unrealistic and irresponsible to build any more houses.

The houses that they are building now are very poor quality and they are not building up the other essential services around them to accommodate massive influxes of people. So the water services, sewerage, electricity supplies, hospitals, shops, schools and public transport is seldom upgraded, and therefore the residents like you and me that already live there will be have vastly inferior services unable to cope with demand. Notice how the school classroom sizes are creeping up again? Notice how you have to queue for 2 weeks to see your GP these days? It's going to get far worse I'm afraid that just building all those houses is not the answer. What do you think about 3 million new houses being built by 2020 in the uk?
The old houses may have alot of character but they will be useless because they wont provide the energy resources which UK will be required in 2020. You forgot to mention UK planes to have every house in UK for 2020 to be wind powered and have its own solar energy powering system. Some houses and buildings already have this in UK. So bye bye to old fashioned houses, like the ones you find in coronation street.
I think it depends a lot on where you live and how good your local council are.

Fortunately where I live a lot of derelict sites have been and are being built on. I have to say some of the houses are lovely. Three new build bungalows even won an award. New builds do not have to go on green sites there are plenty of inner city and town areas that could be rebuilt and compulsory purchase orders would deal with a lot of the housing shortage. We have had two or three new estates built but we have very active public involvement here so they are also hidden away and tastefully done with enough parking...an unusual thing with new builds.

Personally I think a lot of the problem is greed. Why are so many large houses owned by only one or two occupants? Why can people not be happy with a place that is adequate rather than oversized.

I do wish the 'immigrant bashers' would answer the question rather than using it as another way to get their warped view on the world across!
blunder brown said that he will bulldoze the regulations regarding building on brown belt and green belt land. he will build estates in villages. he will ruin our countyside. england will no longer be england.

at the moment there are blocks of ghetto type flats being built in my town. one block recently finished has sold 11 out of 115 flats. he, our wonderful saviour of the world , would be better employed digging holes to be filled in. it would save our villages and it would be cheaper.
I agree with you. I don't think we need anymore houses. Soon there will be no green fields left. They built so called affordable housing in the village where I live and surprise, surprise no young people from the village could afford them. Half of them are now owned by immigrants who rent them out.
If you drop someone in any subdivision in the US without seeing a license plate or geographic landmark it is virtually impossible to know which state one is in, with the possible exception of New Mexico's- Taco Bell housing. Yes the old stuff is beautifully- be glad that you have so much of it.
This is referred to as a ';forward looking statement';. The plan can fail for any number of reasons. Feel free to completely disregard.

Houses will be built regardless of whatever the knuckleheads say.
I agree, new houses have lower ceilings etc, I prefer older ones! But there are housing shortages so we do need a substantial amount of new homes in the UK, so sadly it has to be done.
With all the immigrants going back to Poland etc. and all sensible people leaving Gordon Clowns disaster socialist state we won't need all the new houses!
Presumably the building program mirrors the need? Where are the people going to be housed if there's no new build?
I think most of the houses will be for the immigrants coming into the country
it wont be enough for the 50,000 roumanians poles pakistanis hindus etc etc
And each one will have a little pig flying over the top.
My British friends say England as we knew it is soon to be a thing of the past.
I think i live in America and i dont really care
