If i get wi-fi in my new house-can anyone come in with a laptop and get connected without extra equipment?

They can connect to your wireless network if u give them the password or the (KEY); and only if they have a built in wi-fi adapter or a wireless network card on their laptop. You will not need to buy anything new; and most new laptops have the built in wi-fi built into them.

If you haven't set up a password ie (ur network is not encrypted) please do so, so that u can avoid loosing the speed of ur internet connection when ur neighbour connects to ur wireless network and starts working on it.

That depends.

Anyone to connect to the wireless would need a wireless card. If they don't have one they would not be able to connect.

Also, if you use the security built into the router they will not be able to use it unless you give them the security information.

Nothing is perfect though. Even with security there may be a way for a hacker to get in but it's very rare.

But, if they have a wireless card and the wireless is open (with no security) anyone within the signal range can access it.If i get wi-fi in my new house-can anyone come in with a laptop and get connected without extra equipment?
I'm not sure of your question.

Are you concerned about people who come into your network uninvited?

Or are you concerned with allowing your friends to be able to access your network when they come over.

If you are worried about anyone randomly connecting to your network, the answer is yes, people may be able to connect to your WiFi network unless you take some precautions. To protect yourself:

1) Read the owner's manual for your Wi-Fi hub.

2) Turn off broadcast of the SSID (your network ID) This SSID is the sent out so other wi-fi equipment can discover your network. By turning off broadcast makes it so people don't stumble upon your network.

3) Choose a unique SSID. Don't use the default one (such as ';linksys';). Make it the name of your pet goldfish or some other password like name. You'll have to configure the wifi in each computer or laptop to look for your SID.

4) Choose a WEP password key. Only computers or laptops with wireless cards configured with the same SSID and the same WEP password can actually communicate with your network.

These steps will make your Wi-Fi network fairly secure and reduce the risk of ';break-in';.

Then of course, if you have friends with a laptop that has wi-fi built into it, you just have to give them the SSID and WEP key and then they can connect to your home network.
ya it think so but some things have to be set up on the loptop well it did with mine it is realy easy
yes but they might need a password
If the laptop is equipped with wireless, otherwise that user would need to get equipment to make their computer wireless (several different methods including USB connections).

Then the question would be if you have secured your network. If it is unsecured, anyone with wireless capability can connect (including your neighbors and anyone out on the street) if they are close enough to get a wireless signal from your network. If you have secured the network, your friends would need your security key.
yes... as long as the laptop is equiped with WiFi chip.
Yes and no, I'm not sure how it works but you should install a firewall which would not allow them to access the network but their laptop would detect the signal. If you don't have a firewall or a secure network anyone who is within range can pickup the signal.
