Well, computers are being used more and more to control different functions in a home. Such as; you can now phone your empty house and ';inform'; it that your coming home from work.
The computer then turns on the heater or air conditioner so that your home is comfortable when you arrive.
The computer can be programmed to do pretty much anything you want it to do.
New homes are being wired up to accommodate such functions with Cat 5 wiring and fiber optic cables and such.
